TSMC to Launch Mass Production of 20-nm Process in 1Q 2014
October 04, 2013

TSMC plans to officially launch mass production of the 20-nm process in the first quarter of 2014, according to Taiwan's China Times on October 3. Currently, the accumulated monthly capacity of its P1 (Phase 1), P2, P3, and P4 facilities at Fab 14 in the Tainan Science Park has reached 200,000 units, making it the world's largest semiconductor fab. The company is also installing next-generation 20-nm and 16-nm processes in the P5, P6, and P7 facilities at Fab 14, with a plan to invest NT$500 billion (US$17 billion; US$1=NT$29.375) and create 7,000 job opportunities. As Fab 14 has shouldered an increasing share of TSMC's revenues - approximately 37% last year – the advanced 10-nm process technology will also be set up in the P8 and P9 facilities there, according to the report.
